Synergy and passion within an organization foster a competitive edge. OCI managers, engineers and technical staff come from all corners of the globe, yet they are joined by a purpose that allows for synergy and passion in their everyday thinking and actions. This purpose is a sincere desire to treat each project with the utmost professional commitment, from achieving manufacturing excellence within a single recycling facility to designing and implementing benchmark pollution reducing practices across a client’s global supply chain network. Our staff members are committed to client success in reducing or removing all aspects of waste. We know such work has a worldwide impact. We consider it part of our mission to improve the quality of life of the entire global community.
Many of today’s small and large manufacturing, distribution and service environments are cluttered with waste and hampered by environmentally unfriendly practices. OCI staff members believe that it is our duty as partners in the global community to do whatever we can to aid client organizations in cleaning up waste and implementing more environmentally friendly practices. Many of our clients, both small and large, have benefited greatly from our Lean and Green engineering methods and practices. From Ireland to South Africa, from the United States to China, we have made, and will continue to make, a positive global impact for our clients and for ourselves.
In addition, this infectious synergy and passion for excellence allows us to demonstrate to our clients that they too can create an environment of continuous improvement. By remaining proactive in the research and development of some of the newest technological developments across multiple industries and idea streams, OCI employees have been able to design and widely implement benchmark practices that were once thought to only apply within certain manufacturing and packaging environments or to industry-specific supply chain networks.
Advising and Mentoring: OCI is actively educating the world about the IE’s role
OCI also recognizes the importance of teaching and nurturing young, future engineering leaders. Not only does the company actively recruit talented, creative engineers and managers, OCI reaches out to the entire engineering education community, participating in numerous activities and events. OCI President Paul O'Connell is a regular on the college speaking circuit, having addressed students and faculty at Penn State, Lehigh University, the University of Florida, the University of South Carolina, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Texas at El Paso, Texas A&M, Virginia Polytechnic and California Polytechnic, among others. He speaks on a number of industrial engineering topics, with a heavy emphasis on the specific tools and attitude young people entering the field need to “hit the ground running.” On many occasions, interested students have had the opportunity of speaking one-on-one with different OCI engineers and managers, who have provided them with advice and mentoring. We expose the myths and bring out the facts about the real-world role of the industrial engineer and real-world applications of industrial engineering practices. OCI continues to receive letters and e-mails from young engineers thanking our professionals for inspiration and guidance.
OCI is both global and local. OCI staff members are committed to reaching out to local high schools and community colleges, civic organizations, chambers of commerce and other business groups, and the news media, to inform all of the unlimited possibilities of industrial engineering to positively affect their world, from the reengineering of a single manufacturing process in a small factory to the integration of innovative technologies for influential global corporations whose products and services touch millions of lives.
OCI is a regular sponsor of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Annual Conference and Expo. The firm’s engineers and managers are active members of the IIE. Not only do OCI team members stay abreast of cutting-edge innovations and methodologies in the field, they share the insights they gain with other staff members, so as to more readily integrate new ideas and technologies into the solutions they craft for clients. Moreover, they share their knowledge and unique experiences with the industry and the world at large by publishing articles regarding problems confronted and solutions devised. OCI team players see the bigger picture and know they are part of it. They serve the client. They also serve the global community.
