Lean Approach And Methodology:

OCI professionals implement Lean concepts and methods for various projects using the very effective and tested Four-Phase approach described below:

Phase I Project Initiation and Assessment:

OCI engineers and managers work with the client’s project team to define project objectives, identify areas for improvement and determine the roles and responsibilities for gathering required information. This is followed by floor observations, data collection, interviews, check sheets, questionnaires, and data analysis to perform value-stream mapping. Waste identification, value analysis and determination of key volumetrics for throughput (takt time) are performed during observations. The results are presented to the client.

Phase II Lean Tool Selection:

Based on the findings in Phase I, OCI engineers determine “how to eliminate waste in a cost-effective manner.” OCI engineers work closely with the client to determine future goals. An appropriate technique is selected for waste reduction: 5-S, Automation, Poke-Yoke, Visual Workplace, line balancing, etc.

Phase III Detailed Operations Design:

OCI designs a detailed methodology for the new operations. This may include Training, Work Instructions, Equipment Changes, Layout Changes, Paperwork Changes, Methods, and Procedures Reengineering or Information System changes, to achieve the desired state. OCI professionals train the operators, supervisors and managers for the new operating methods and perform pilot runs.

Phase IV Execution and Post Audit:

OCI performs site preparation, equipment installations, and operator training prior to the “Go Live” date. The new methodology and changes are executed working closely with the client’s project team.

OCI engineers and certified Lean professionals provide 24-hour, 3-shift support, training, coaching and mentoring prior to and during the concept execution to ensure smooth transition to the new methods. Exception handling and fine-tuning of procedures are performed after the “Go Live” date.
